JETHRO TULL'S MARTIN BARRE TO RELEASE "AWAY WITH WORDS"

RELEASE DATE SEPTEMBER 30, 2013

Jethro Tull guitarist Martin Barre has announced the release of his fourth solo album "Away With Words", through RSK’s new label, Edifying Records on September 30th.

Barre's guitar playing has earned him a high level of respect and recognition;  He was voted 25th best solo ever in the US and 20th best solo ever in the UK for his playing on "Aqualung".  His playing on the album "Crest Of A Knave" earned him a Grammy award in 1988.  By the age of 21 he was already multi-talented playing guitar, flute, and saxophone.  He proves it's never too late to pick up something new, learning Bass Clarinet at age 64!

Martin Barre, with the invaluable help of engineer James Bragg, took the lesser known Tull songs from their catalogue and with Barre's superb knowledge and understanding of music, did away with words (hence the title) and transformed them into intellectual acoustic songs, weaving each of these gems together with heartfelt melody and harmony.  Martin uses each instrument to compliment each other and uses them also, in a playful way like in the track "One Brown Mouse/Fatcat" it seems, using the acoustic guitar as the mouse and the electric guitar as the cat.  "It's My Round"  is a beautiful track that made my mind and heart soar into a warm, bright place filled with tenderness.  "Air Lament Of The Spalpeen/Martin's Jig/Hymn" starts out with a crying flute like a wolf howling at the moon and then picks up a feisty attitude.

“Re-arranging and representing the Tull songs featured on this album became a very pleasant and rewarding task. These lesser known songs have always been amongst my favourite pieces of music and reworking them brought back many good memories” – he confides enthusiastically. Talking about his new compositions included in the album, he says “I have written the rest of the music, hopefully with sympathy and taste. Composing and re-arranging is my passion. Bringing together the many acoustic instruments was a delight for me, but of course the electric guitar couldn’t be totally left out of the picture!” He goes on to say “This album is a fusion of my writing blended together with Ian (Anderson’s) in a continual movement of music.”

The Band:
Martin Barre: Acoustic/Classic/Electric Guitars, Bouzouki, Mandolin, Bass, Flute & Bass Clarinet
Dan Crisp: Vocals
Frank Mead: Blackwood Flute, Whistles, Bodhran and Blues Harp
Jonathan Noyce: Bass
George Lindsay: Drums & Percussion

2. It's My Round
3. One Brown Mouse/Fatcat
4. All Bars Hold
5. Air: Lament Of the Spalpeen/Martin's Jig/Hymn
6. Pussy Willow
7. Snapshot/Paparazzi
8. Long Ago/Home
9. Fire At Midnight/From The Ashes
10. Protect & Survive

Martin Barre started his music career in the early 60s playing saxophone. He audition for Jethro Tull in 1969 and was handpicked by Ian Anderson to take on guitar duties from Mick Abrahams. Today he’s the longest standing member after Anderson himself, having appeared on all of their albums apart from their first.  In an interview recently with Classic Rock Radio dot EU's Jon Kirkman, Barre stated that "The Tull door is closed right now, but not locked.  If Tull was to get together again it will have to be really really special."

Classic Rock Radio Dot EU – New CD Review
Spotlight: The Prog Collective – Epilogue (2013 Purple Pyramid)

Since arriving in my mailbox, the newest from Billy Sherwood’s The Prog Collective called Epilogue has been occupying all my spare time.  I simply fell into it, and have been stuck in all its groovy prog-ness ever since first opening it up.

Like the debut Prog Collective recording, the foundation for this second offering called Epilogue, has been put in place by ex-Yes member Billy Sherwood. A multi-instrumentalist with over twenty years experience as a professional musician on stage and behind the scenes. I reviewed Billy’s work for Classic Rock Radio Dot EU on more than one occasion. My review of the first Prog Collective mentioned something about it being more on the melodic side than being a real rocker. A little time later and the second offering from The Prog Collective comes out called Epilogue. It not only addressed the issue I had, but in my ears took my suggestion. For there is enough real rocking out moments included in Epilogue so as to motivate the wiggling of any prog-heads bums should they be so inclined to do so. Am happy about that, for playing rock music in general is the reason I started listening to many of the superb players that are included in this fine new release.

The songs here are presented in typical prog-rock style; airy yet meaningful lyrics, long instrumental passages, different time changes, and styles of playing. That in a nutshell is, at least to me, what a good definition of what prog-rock is. Yet it’s also way more. Those who admit to being a fan know what I’m talking about. Hard to describe but I do know this. Prog Rock music fans are real music fans. We appreciate more than anything musicians who dedicate themselves to their craft. In prog, that’s pretty much commonplace. So prepare to come out of the shadows. Prog Rock fans unite.

The first song on the CD is also the first song to get stuck in my head titled "Are We To Believe?"  Besides Mr. Sherwood, who is always doing something on every song, giving him some help here is Rick Wakeman (Yes),  Colin Moulding (XTC), Steve Hillage (Gong), and Mel Collins (King Crimson). When Mel's part comes in, I was immediately reminded of another Sherwood project called The Fusion Syndicate. Also on Purple Pyramid Records by the way. Came out last year. A solid CD and worth seeking out if you haven’t already. Anyway...so back to Epilogue, the CD starts off sounding like...well...prog rock. From the mainstream to those musicians so involved they sleep with their instruments (U Know Who U R), and simply never losing focus of what real prog rock sounds like.

Let me remind you that each song on Epilogue contains a who’s who of super-star prog rock musicians. John Wetton (UK / Asia), Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater_Billy Idol), and John Westley (Porcupine Tree_Steven Wilson) are on the second track with an another example of what a prog rock song should song like. Titled "What Can Be Done?" reminds me of some of the work Mister Wetton did when he was with the group King Crimson.
When I heard the third track for the first time called "Adding Fuel To The Fire", I knew we had a winner here. It’s the rock in prog I always find most rewarding. The guest stars are Fee Waybill (The Tubes), Steve Morse (Deep Purple), and John Westley (Steven Wilson_Porcupine Tree).
"Tomorrow Never Comes" is yet another superb song found on this album. An old acquaintance, Peter Banks (original Yes guitarist) is on it. One of his last performances sadly, for Banks passed away in the first part of this year. On keyboards, Larry Fast (Nektar_Peter Gabriel) and providing wonderful vocals, Sonja Kristina (Curved Air).
"Shining Diamonds" is a showcase to display a knock-out lineup of Alan Parsons (The Alan Parsons Project), Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), Patrick Moraz (Refugee_The Moody Blues), and Chris Squire (Conspiracy). The latter of the two, their first time on a new recording since the seventies (Yes – Relayer / Chris Squire – Fish Out Of Water). Long overdue with both of their performances as good as any previous collaborations.

The seventh song is "Memory Tracks" with Billy Sherwood playing all instruments and just a tad help in the vocal department from none other than Roye Albrighton from the super prog rock band Nektar. Together their vocals make this one of the best singing performances on the album. Warning…this song also includes crazy cool keyboards. At around the 5:10 mark, just as the harmonies fade, crank up the volume. One of the best songs on the whole CD. A wonderful showcase for displaying Mr. Sherwood's musical abilities.
"Just Another Day" is Billy Sherwood on lead vocals, with Gary Green (Gentle Giant) and Tony Kaye (ex-original Yes & present day Cirra:) on keyboards. Segments into the closing number real well. The title song "Epilogue" contains some serious rock drumming from Jim Cuomo (Fireballet), and get this, spoken word from Hollywood's William Shatner. For this is one of his BETTER musical moments.

Check it out, prog rock in of itself was made to include such things as Shatner’s spoken word performance. The Moody Blues and Rick Wakeman have included narrative in some of their biggest sellers. Leave it to Billy Sherwood to be able to find just the right vibe so as to present the iconic actor in the right environment. That and Cumom's drum work is exceptional.

Rating: Using a one to five star rating system, Uncle G gives The Prog Collective – Epilogue 5 solid stars. Having played it enough times so when I hear it now, I know I’m playing a superbly finely crafted prog-rock album. Am looking forward to additional Prog Collective projects coming down the pike. Purple Pyramid take notice. The Prog Collective is a winner, as is their newest CD Epilogue.

MEGADETH ‘COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION: LIVE’ TO BE RELEASED IN THE UK ON 21ST OCTOBER IN MULTIPLE VIDEO AND AUDIO CONFIGURATIONS
Definitive Document of Megadeth’s Acclaimed 2012 “Countdown to Extinction 20thAnniversary Tour”
“(Countdown to Extinction) may just be the finest thrash-metal album ever made” – SPIN

Last November and December, Megadeth blazed hot on the band’s “Countdown to Extinction 20th Anniversary Tour,” ripping through their entire double platinum 1992 album from start to finish before performing other classics from their recorded catalog.  On October 21st (September 24 in North America), Tradecraft/Universal Music will release Countdown to Extinction: Live, a definitive document of the acclaimed, sold-out tour.  Recorded and filmed at Los Angeles’ Fox Theatre last December, Countdown to Extinction: Live will be available in several video and audio configurations, including Deluxe Blu-ray+CD, Deluxe DVD+CD, DVD, CD, Digital Album, Mastered for iTunes Album, and Longform Digital Video.

In addition to Megadeth’s blistering performance of the entire Countdown to Extinction album, including the essential “Symphony Of Destruction,” “Foreclosure Of A Dream,” “Sweating Bullets,” and “Skin O’ My Teeth,” Countdown to Extinction: Live features all of the other Megadeth classics the band performed at the epic concert, including “Holy Wars” and “Hangar 18” from 1990’s Rust in Peace, “Peace Sells” from the band’s influential, platinum certified 1986 album, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?, and “Trust” from 1997’s platinum certified Cryptic Writings.
Megadeth’s fifth studio album, Countdown to Extinction was recorded in Los Angeles in 1992.  American tensions weren’t limited to LA, as the Gulf War was still fresh in people’s minds, the state of the environment was becoming headline news, and out of this turmoil, Megadeth was inspired to create Countdown to Extinction, considered by many to be the band’s best and most accessible album. None of their previous records were as polemical as the sonic missiles launched by ‘Countdown.’  Megadeth laced the songs with acid-tongued commentary about subjects ranging from the futility of war (“Architecture of Aggression”) to the senseless brutality of caged hunting (“Countdown to Extinction”).  “Foreclosure of a Dream” sampled George Bush’s infamous “Read my lips” speech, making a statement about taxation endangering the American Dream.

Thanks to a perfect balance of hard-rock song structures, epic choruses, and fleet-fingered guitar work, Countdown to Extinctionbecame an instant classic, benefiting from copious MTV and radio play. SPIN magazine raved that ‘Countdown’ “may just be the finest thrash-metal album ever made.”  The album shot to No. 2 on the Billboard chart (it may have hit No. 1, if not for Billy Ray Cyrus’ long chart-topping reign with Some Gave All), and it was certified double platinum in the U.S. within two years.
Megadeth was in top form, with Dave Mustaine, the band’s then 31-year-old singer and guitarist leading the album’s assault with lyrics like “You know your worth when your enemies praise your architecture of aggression,” not to mention his venomous rhythm guitar attack with his longtime bandmate completed the picture, as bassist David Ellefson jammed dizzying arrays of low-end thunder. Megadeth sounded hungry, and the band was rewarded when the album earned a GRAMMY Award nomination (Best Metal Performance) and when its title cut garnered a Genesis Award from the Humane Society for raising awareness for animal rights issues.

In November 2012, Capitol released an expanded and remastered 20th Anniversary Edition of Countdown to Extinction, personally overseen by Mustaine. The 2CD lift-top box and digital release pairs the remastered original album with an exclusive, previously unreleased 1992 concert, recorded live at San Francisco’s Cow Palace.

In a career nearing 30 years, Megadeth has sold more than 38 million albums worldwide, earning five consecutive platinum albums and numerous accolades along the way, including 11 GRAMMY® nominations.  The band’s latest studio album, Super Collider, reunites Mustaine once again with guitarist Chris Broderick, bassist David Ellefson, and drummer Shawn Drover.  Released in June,Super Collider debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and No. 22 on the UK album chart, Megadeth’s highest chart debuts since 1994’s YouthanasiaSuper Collider also gathered Top 40 album chart debuts in a further 22 countries worldwide including 6 Top 10 placements and 5 in the Top 20.

The Dead Daisies Announce First Ever UK Headline Date
Wednesday, November 20th 2013
Support from Leogun and The Graveltones

Single: “Lock ‘N’ Load” featuring Slash
Release date: 28th October 2013

The Dead Daisies are pleased to announce their first ever UK headline show at Camden’s Underworld venue on Wednesday 20th November 2013. Support will come from very special guests Leogun and The Graveltones.

The Dead Daisies release their debut single “Lock ‘N’ Load” featuring Slash in the UK on the 28th October 2013. The single is currently receiving a huge amount of airplay on national UK radio.

Formed around the nucleus of Australians Jon Stevens (Noiseworks/INXS) and David Lowy (Red Phoenix/Mink), the powerful musical collective is completed by a line-up that speaks volumes. They include, Charley Drayton (The X-pensive Winos/The Cult), Richard Fortus (Guns ‘N’ Roses/Thin Lizzy), Darryl Jones (The Rolling Stones) and Dizzy Reed (Guns ‘N’ Roses).

The Dead Daisies sound is created around the tracks written by Stevens & Lowy which is based on the music they both love – classic late ‘70s early ‘80s hard rock, in that soulful Bad Company meets Foreigner via The Faces kind of vibe – big choruses, powerful melodies, and strong hooks. Recorded with LA-based engineer, producer and multi-instrumentalist John Fields, The Dead Daises finished recording their debut album in just two intensely creative weeks.

The fun began in earnest when The Dead Daisies were invited to open for ZZ Top in Southport, Queensland and Sydney in March 2013, and started to heat up when they joined legendary American rockers, Aerosmith, on their first Australasian tour in 23 years. But things really caught fire with The Dead Daisies’ invitation to be a part of the massive 25-date Rockstar Uproar Festival through the US and Canada in August/September, where they have joined Alice In Chains, Jane’s Addiction and Coheed & Cambria among others.

Their forthcoming single “Lock ‘N’ Load” featuring Slash is trademark Dead Daisies.  The track was co-written by, and features the inimitable guitar tone of the legendary Slash. Rolling Stone have already name checked the track on their Daily Download, and it has been getting strong praise on US rock radio, being featured on both Alice Cooper’s and Nikki Sixx’s extremely popular nationally syndicated radio programs. On releasing their single now to UK audiences, Lowy had this to say, “The hard rock culture in Britain is so strong and there is so much history to live up to, it’s truly amazing. We're looking forward to playing to a new audience in the UK and hopefully, some new fans.”

Jon Stevens has also just contributed the title track; “Fly”, to the animated Disney movie “Planes” released in the UK on August 16th and was the number one film for that weekend at the UK and Ireland box offices.

The fire that The Dead Daisies started half a year ago continues to grow larger, burning hotter and spreading faster…

FORMER DR. FEELGOOD GUITARIST WILKO JOHNSON'S SAD ANNOUNCEMENT

RECORDING FAREWELL ALBUM WITH ROGER DALTREY

I am very sad to announce that Wilko Johnson has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer of the Pancreas.  He has chosen not to receive any chemotherapy.

He is currently in good spirits, is not yet suffering any physical effects and can expect to enjoy at least another few months of reasonable health and activity.

Wilko wishes to offer his sincere thanks for all the support he has had over his long career, from those who have worked with him to, above all, those devoted fans and admirers who have attended his live gigs, bought his recordings and generally made his life such an extraordinarily full and eventful experience.

From Robert Hoy (manager)

Terminally ill Wilko Johnson is set to spend his final days recording an album with Roger Daltrey.  Former Dr. Feelgood guitarist Wilko, 66 set out on a farewell tour in the spring after being diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. Ill health prevented him from performing the final two shows in Canvey Island, Essex, where he was born.

He decided to team up with The Who's Daltrey after the pair met at an awards ceremony this month.  Wilko said: "They did tell me in January I'd be dead in October, but I may last into next year.  I hope we'll have something done before I go.  There are a few more things I want to record.  I wrote some songs right after getting this diagnosis.  It won't be morbid, though.  I can't have any truck with that.  The music I want to continue to make, I think, generally should be a laugh not a cry.  So there's not going to be any cancer dirges."

JONNY LANG'S NEW ALBUM "FIGHT FOR MY SOUL"

"FIGHT FOR MY SOUL" AVAILABLE IN UK & EUROPE

SHEPHERD'S BUSH EMPIRE SHOW IN LONDON ON APRIL 25, 2014

Following the quick sell out of his first show in London in a decade at The Borderline on October 3rd, Jonny Lang will return to London for performance at Shepherd’s Bush Empire on April 25th 2014.
Tickets will go on sale this Friday September 12th from the venue box office, select ticket agents and the tour 24hr Ticket hotline 0844 338 0000 and on line at BookingsDirect.com
Lang’s first studio album in seven years, Fight For My Soul, was just released last week via Mascot Label Group.  The album was named BBC Radio 2’s Album Of The Week upon its release.
Over a period of three years, Lang collaborated with producer/songwriter Tommy Sims (who co-wrote Eric Clapton’s GRAMMY-winning “Change the World”) crafting the album’s elegant rock ‘n’ soul tracks from the ground up.
Textured arrangements, gorgeous vocal melodies, and expressive guitar playing are all found in generous abundance on Fight For My Soul, however, the album defies categorization by a single genre.
“This album is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time,” offers Lang. “Some of these songs may surprise people, but that’s what it’s all about.  It keeps it fresh, and it keeps me growing. Creatively, I think there is a lot more going on inside of me than I’ve been sharing on record so far. Much of what I’ve experienced through music and life in general is in these songs.”
Since the release of his 1997 major label debut “Lie To Me”, the then 16 year-old Lang has built a reputation as one of the best live performers and guitarists of his generation.

The new website is now at this link: PallasOfficial.com

For the first time Pallas are making available the rough mixes for "The Sentinel" which the band took away with them from the Eddy Offord's studio in Atlanta, which gives another insight into what the LP could have been had fate not intervened. This has already been a talking point amongst  the band's Facebook friends and is a must for those who have followed the band since the early days.

The band have also re-worked a previously only available as medium quality mp3 exclusive release "The Sentinel Demos" and made it available at much better quality through the new Bandcamp facility to give you some idea of what a double album of The Sentinel may have been like had it been the double album that the band had intended in the first place. This extensive archive of rehearsal and live recordings includes the tracks that would have been on the album had it been a double and never found their way onto B sides and the later CD are: A New Age Dawns, The Scrolls, The Cell, Flashpoint 2, and The Calm Before the Storm which explore the storyline in much more detail than the truncated eventual LP did.

Pallas have had many "available at gigs and fan club only" releases throughout the years and they have also included them to download, some for the first time in over twenty years
Have a look at the new downloads page at this link: Exclusive Downloads

To top it all Pallas are also pleased to announce some end of year gigs, including the House of Progression Christmas Party and Awards Night Saturday 7th December along with Friday 29th November - Aberdeen The Moorings, and Saturday 30th November - Glasgow Classic Grand.

Blodwyn Pig Compilation Of Rare Unreleased Recordings 'Pigtholgy' Now Available!

British blues-rock legends Blodwyn Pig, featuring original Jethro Tull guitarist Mick Abrahams, have released a new compilation of rare unreleased recordings titled 'Pigthology' on Gonzo MultiMedia UK. Along with Abrahams (vocals, guitars), the band featured Jack Lancaster (saxes, flutes, violin, keys and wind controllers), Andy Pyle (bass), and Ron Berg (drums) and was later joined by Jethro Tull's Clive Bunker on drums. Produced by Mick Abrahams and Jack Lancaster, 'Pigtholgy' features re-mastered recordings of Blodwyn Pig's most beloved and successful songs “Dear Jill”, “See My Way” and “Drive Me”, along with unreleased live and studio material.

Blodwyn Pig in its first form was a legend in rock history hitting the top of the LP charts in Britain and elsewhere around the world. The band received new recognition and inspiration when the track “Dear Jill” was used in Cameron Crow's movie 'Almost Famous'. Many bands credit Blodwyn Pig with being a huge influence at the start of their careers, including rock legends Aerosmith. There are several fan sites across the internet which still attest to the group's popularity. Through the years several bands have recorded covers of Blodwyn tunes, the most noted being Joey Ramone's version of “See My Way”.

Blodwyn Pig played alongside Led Zeppelin, The Who, Procul Harem, BB King, Miles Davis, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd and Joe Cocker at the Isle Of Wight rock festivals, and the Reading rock festival. The “Pig” completed two successful American tours, playing venues like the Filmores, numerous universities and the LA Forum. Most of the recordings on 'Pigology' are from this period.

A few notes from Jack Lancaster: “On 'Baby Girl' Mick played piano as an overdub, otherwise the track was played live in the studio. 'Cosmogrification', this was a reformed Blodwyn with Clive Bunker on drums. We only did a short tour. Clive joined because of Rin Berg's illness. I play piano on 'Monkinit' – I mention this because normally we never used keyboard on tracks.”

Tracks include:
  1. See My Way – recorded at Mick Abrahams studio (date unknown)
  2. Baby Girl – recorded at BBC Maida Vale studios, John Peel show (1970)
  3. Dear Jill – recorded at Mick Abrahams studio (date unknown)
  4. Monkinit (A tribute to Thelonious Monk) – recorded at Verdant studios Hollywood, CA (date unknown)
  5. Drive Me – recording location unknown (1970)
  6. The Change Song – live at the Marquee Club Soho (1969)
  7. Cosmogrification – live at Luton Town Hall (1973)
  8. Same Old Story – recorded at BBC Maida Vale studios, John Peel show (1970)
  9. Hound Dog – recorded at Mick Abrahams studio (date unknown)
  10. Sly Bones – recorded at Mick Abrahams studio, Verdant studios Hollywood, CA (date unknown)
  11. It's Only Love – outtake, Morgan studios (1969)
  12. Stormy Monday – Mick Abrahams studio (date unknown)

The Answer "New Horizon" Album Released  and European Tour dates

THE ANSWER release with their stunning new album “New Horizon” the most thrillingly vital album of their career to date. This album is a statement of intent that showcases their trademark rock ‘n’ roll evangelism. Produced by Little Angels front man, Toby Jepson and mixed by the renowned Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Metallica), The Answer have seldom sounded as electrified as they do on this recording.

From the bullish bluster of the opening track, itself called ‘New Horizon’ and the irresistibly catchy thud ‘n’ thrust of ‘Spectacular’ to the muscular grooves and blues inspired ‘Baby Kill Me’ and the bold and brash call to arms of ‘Scream A Louder Love’, “New Horizon’s” 10 gleaming anthems offer a strident and skilful update of The Answer’s ageless manifesto. This is rock ‘n’ roll as it was always meant to be; raging with confidence and belief, crackling and sparking with feral energy yet exhibiting the kind of sublime flair that separates the instantly classic from the merely mundane.

With artwork designed by the iconic and late Storm Thorgerson (Pink Floyd / Led Zeppelin/ Muse), this package promises a brighter, louder and more unstoppable triumphant future for The Answer than ever. The band will immediately hit the road in October for a 40 date headline UK and European tour to take their super-amplified live show back to their global army of devoted fans!

Skunk Anansie Exclusive UK DVD Premier On YOUTUBE Tonight!!

Skunk Anansie have announced an exclusive UK stream of a 50 minute edit of their new DVD, on their Youtube channel ahead of the official full DVD release on Monday.

The UK premiere will take place at 7pm today over on
http://www.youtube.com/skunkanansieofficial
and their new Google + page
https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/103482007459024782667

The screening will be followed by a Q & A with the band from the London screening, held today in Notting Hill.

Recorded on April 15, 2013 at Belgravia's storied Cadogan Hall, home of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, ‘An Acoustic Skunk Anansie – Live in London’ sees renowned British rock band Skunk Anansie serving up beautifully re-imagined versions of some of their best-loved songs before an enrapt audience of 900 fans. Tickets for the event sold out within hours of going on sale and having seen the finished results it’s easy to see why. An Acoustic Skunk Anansie is an intimate portrait of a band boldly toying with convention and their own illustrious history, it's a timely reminder that, even as Skunk Anansie approach their 20th anniversary as a band, the Londoners retain the power to provoke and surprise.

"It was really special," says Skin. "It showcased a whole new side to the band. When you strip everything back a lot of the beauty and vulnerability and menace of the songs shines through in totally new ways, the nuances of the writing really comes through. And people were really listening, really concentrating, instead of jumping up and down and stagediving as is the norm at our concerts. Even though most of the audience had probably seen us play before, at some points it must have been as if they were hearing the band for the very first time."

Drawing upon material from all five of Skunk Anansie's studio albums (plus the 'Smashes And Trashes' compilation, released in 2009 to celebrate the band's return from a nine year hiatus), 'An Acoustic Skunk Anansie - Live In London' is an astonishing document of the night. From bruised and beautiful set opener 'Brazen (Weep)' through to the funky, Zeppelin-esque stomp of 'Charlie Big Potato' which brought the evening to a euphoric climax, it's a unique snapshot of an iconic band performing at the peak of their powers. The album also sees the band serve up a spine-tingling take on Paul Weller's 'You Do Something To Me' (a highlight of The Modfather's acclaimed 'Stanley Road' collection) which proves beautifully suited to Skin's honeyed vocals.
By turns haunting, vulnerable, confrontational and menacing, the band's takes of love and loss, recrimination and revenge are reframed in startling, stark new forms, distilled down to their purest essence.

The late Nashville songwriter Harlan Howard once opined that all the best songwriting could be summarised as 'three chords and the truth': re-contextualised here in acoustic form, Skunk Anansie's open-hearted anthems have never sounded more powerful or affecting.

From 23rd September 2013 you will be able to experience this pivotal moment in the bands career for yourself in stunning Surround Sound, Blu-ray and CD.

MOTÖRHEAD'S NEW ALBUM "AFTERSHOCK"

AVAILABLE IN UK OCT. 21st

Like the juggernaut you prayed would keep on crushing you, like the friend that still royally pisses off your parents and like a loyal standard of crunchy, greasy, punky, bluesy, gutsy screw-you rock’n’roll, Motörhead stride out through their 38th year brandishing more swagger and attitude then your ears could begin to comprehend.

On Oct 21st, 2013 Motörhead will deliver their 21st studio album, an enormous and prophetic Aftershock. Recorded at NRG Studios in North Hollywood,it is a true leveler, a crushing confirmation of everything Motörhead stands for, marching from the dust storm to deliver 14 belting statements which see Motörhead in perhaps their best writing form for years. There’s swagger, there’s punch, there’s speed and there’s dirty filthy grooves, Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee showing clearly that Motörhead is not simply a band, it’s a genre!

That genre, more than ever, resonates with hearty independence and swashbuckle. Whether it’s “Heartbreaker” throwing hooks and riffs into your head, the double-kick concussiveness of “Paralyzed” with Campbell’s fuelled attack, or the thunderous ride-off-the-Rickenbacker Motörcharge of “Going To Mexico”, Aftershock takes gleeful twists and turns which re-announce the Motörlegend. There’s the smokey biker bar blues in the shape of “Dust And Glass”, Lemmy’s late-night vocals evoking last-call and melancholy, the pogo-powered punk-spiked stab of “Queen Of The Damned” and the deliciously steamy, humid mournful “Lost Woman Blues” which midway through decides to kick over the stool and stomp out the saloon door.

“Steal it if you must, buy it if you can!” says Lemmy, who’s pride in the album is so immense that guests to his home and dressing room in the last couple of months have been treated to extremely loud airings of the rough mixes, while Phil Campbell adds, “I really think the variation on the album shows that we’ve dug deep and produced some of our best work for a long time.”
“It is,” says Mikkey Dee, “a really, really strong Motörhead album, one that really does define everything this band stands for.”
He’s not wrong.
Because Motörhead are Motörhead are Motörhead…and their Aftershock will be felt worldwide…

Classic Rock, UK presents Motörhead’s ‘Aftershock’ as a limited edition fanpack which features the new album in full plus a 132 page magazine that forms the ‘ultimate sleevenotes’ to the new album, with extensive and exclusive interviews with Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee.

Plus a giant Motorhead poster and exclusive car sticker. The fanpack edition will be on sale 21 October 2013 and is available to pre-order now from www.myfavouritemagazines.co.uk/motorhead
