GERRY McAVOY'S BAND OF FRIENDS, ‘live’!
A celebration of Rory Gallagher’s music
The Band Of Friends is not a tribute to Rory, more of a celebration of his life and music.
Rorys music reached a massive audience from Norway to Spain, from Japan to the USA. Covering all parts of the globe and producing some of the greatest Rock/blues albums of the 60s, 70s and the 80s.
Sadly we lost Rory on Jun 14th 1995, to his devoted fans and followers, this was the ultimate tragedy.
TED played with Rory for 5 years; from 1976 to 1981 and because of this has a great insight into the man and his music. GERRY played on every album Rory ever made. He also wrote a book following his career, which was published in 2005. "Riding Shotgun"
GERRY McAVOY (Bass Guitar) (Deep Joy/Champion Jack Dupree/Rory Gallagher Band/Nine Below Zero)
TED McKENNA (Drums) Best known for his work with The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, drumming legend Ted McKenna started his career aged 16. After a four year apprenticeship playing all over Scotland and the north of England, he joined the rock band Teargas and recorded his first album.
Teargas supported singer Alex Harvey in 1972 and they combined to become The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. After recording 9 albums, the band split in late 77 and Ted continued his drumming career with a series of outstanding musicians; Rory Gallagher, Greg Lake (ELP), Gary Moore, German guitar hero Michael Schenker and Ian Gillan (Deep Purple).
Although primarily known as a rock musician, Ted has also worked with jazz maestro John as also worked with jazz maestro John Etheridge, Juno Award-winning American Canadian blues guitarist Amos Garrett and American soul duo Womack & Womack.
After 15 years lecturing in Applied Arts and Music at North Glasgow College, Ted has returned to drumming full time and is available for tours, sessions, master classes and drumming workshops.
MARCEL SCHERPENZEEL (Guitar/Vocals) grew up with Rorys music and Gerry is quoted as saying "This is the closest guitarist to Rory you will ever hear"
For over twenty years Marcel carried the torch for blues & rock all over the world.
Marcel is also available for sessions, workshops and guitar lessons.
