QUIREBOYS CELEBRATE THREE DECADES WITH STUNNING HAT-TRICK
ALBUM: BLACK EYED SONS
RELEASED DATE: 16TH JUNE 2014
ANNOUNCE UK TOUR NOVEMBER 2014

The brand new album “Black Eyed Sons” kicks off 30th anniversary celebrations. Top value package will include live CD and live DVD and will be released on Monday 16th June, via Off Yer Rocka Recordings.

Following three sold out intimate shows to mark the start of their 30th anniversary, The Quireboys will embark on a 5 month world tour which will commence with a long awaited return to The US & Canada early August.

They will be back mid November for the UK leg, which goes on sale this weekend. Expect new material from the forthcoming Black Eyed Sons, triple pack, rarities plus all the classics.

Special guests for the UK will be Hispanic Blues Rock legends, Vargas Blues Band, who have recently signed to The Quireboys label, Off Yer Rocka Recordings.

The year is 1984. The miners’ strike is in full swing. Apple sells its first Macintosh home computer and Whitesnake release Slide It In. Prince Harry is born…

…and the band that would become the Quireboys makes its infamous debut at a heaving pub in Putney.

Thirty years down the line and it’s time to celebrate a golden age of music with the ultimate party band. In 2014 the Quireboys continue to fuse retro-fuelled hooks with rock n roll evolution: new album “Black Eyed Sons” is the perfect soundtrack to your summer.

Following hot on the heels of last year’s critically acclaimed Beautiful Curse – the band’s biggest-selling record since their early 90s heyday – “Black Eyed Sons” was produced by the legendary Chris Tsangarides and represents yet another career high for a band bang in form.

Spike (vocals), Guy Griffin (guitars), Paul Guerin (guitars) and Keith Weir (keys) have spent more than a decade rebuilding and revitalising one of British rock n roll’s best-loved brands. “Black Eyed Sons” is the triumphant result.

Packaged alongside a CD of The Quireboys’ main stage acoustic set at 2013’s Sweden Rock festival – in front of 40,000 fans – and a live 7 CAM shot DVD featuring the London leg of last year’s Beautiful Curse tour, this is a must-have for long-time fans and new converts alike.

“I’ve always felt like I’m 30-years-old,” jokes Spike. “So this is our time. And I’d just like to raise a toast to the next 30 years.”

So 2014 is the fortieth anniversary of Kiss signing to Casablanca Records. Yes believe it or not is has been forty years since the late Neil Bogart signed the fledgling Kiss to his new label. The label was so new that Kiss were the first signing to the label. Now I know what you are saying "Not another compilation from Kiss" yes there have been a few but in fairness over forty years a band like Kiss draws new fans to the fan base and like it or not you long time Kiss fans that is the very thing that keeps the Kiss juggernaut rolling along

So across two CDs we have the obvious tracks like“Detroit Rock City,” “Love Gun,” “Beth,” “Rock And Roll All Nite,” “Beth,” “Psycho Circus,” “Forever,” “I Was Made For Lovin’ You.” “Lick It Up,” “Heaven’s On Fire” and “Hell or Hallelujah.” Plus some added bonuses to keep the faithful happy including live recordings of “Deuce” (from 2004 tour), “Cold Gin” (from 2009 Alive 35 tour), “Crazy Crazy Nights” (from 2010 Sonic Boom Over Europe tour) and the previously unreleased 1977 demo of “Reputation”
These later tracks are of course the real pull along with the packaging for the long time members of the "Kiss Army" which has supported the band through thick and thin and will also no doubt continue to do so and buy this album.
To say that this compilation contains the Best of Kiss really is stating the obvious but it really is just that and as a primer for newer fans who can just dip in and maybe delve back across the extensive catalogue  then this release ticks all the boxes. Suffice to say that there will no doubt be a few critics who bemoan the fact the the band are just re selling their greatest hits once more but really they are missing the point Why would you not want to celebrate your fortieth anniversary by sharing your best tracks with your fans and also it is timed nicely to come out just as the band are riding a wave of massive publicity following their  admission to the hallowed Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame and are about to embark on a massive tour alongside Def Leppard.
Whilst the band may not be here to celebrate their eightieth anniversary there will no doubt be a compilation celebrating that particular anniversary on what will no doubt be the latest audio format but enough already just get with the program and enjoy the great songs on this album which really do reflect the band in the best light.

Pat Travers Band at the Tonic Lounge in Portland, Oregon on Friday May 2, 2014.

Friday, May 2nd the Pat Travers Band made their way to Portland, Oregon for a sold out show at the Tonic Lounge for the release of their brand new CD “CAN DO.”  The show started at 9:30pm with an instrumental prog, three piece band of talented musicians from San Francisco called Points North.  They got the already pumped crowd hot and ready for the Pat Travers band.

Pat Travers, Rodney O’Quinn, Kirk McKim, and Sandy Gennaro hit the stage and opened it up with PTB’s classic hit “Rock N Roll Susie” an earth shaking performance that got the crowd feelin’ right.  Pat and Kirk McKim harmonized and dueled with their guitars, while Sandy Gennaro wailed on his kit.

Pat Travers commented, “When anyone asks me what type of music I play, I always say rock, I play rock music and now my music is referred to as classic rock.”  Pat showed us just how he stood the test of time and played some of his classic favorites, “Crash and Burn,” which really features Pat’s voice and the unique sound of his guitar playing, “Stevie,” “Snortin’ Whiskey,” and the ever so fun, “Boom Boom (out go the lights).”  This was especially fun with a sold out crowd.  Everyone was right on cue,   shouting, “OUT GO THE LIGHTS!”  The lighting crew also took the cue and dimmed the lights each time.

There was a good mix of blues on the setlist and Pat Travers has an incredible talent of taking old blues songs and turning them into guitar driven hits as he did on his album ‘Blues On Fire’.  The band played track one from this album, Blind Blake’s 1927 song, “Black Dog Blues,” which Rodney O’Quinn is the star, giving this song a heavy, thumping riff, laying a solid foundation for the other players.

Pat took us down the road of his incredible career with blues and classics, but I really enjoyed, also, the songs he chose to perform off of his new CD.   Pat told us that his next song “Diamond Girl,” was his favorite off of ‘CAN DO’.  This song has the same quality as “Stevie,” a melodic heartfelt song with a message, but more lift and a bit more funky.  He also performed the title track, “Can Do,” a heavy song with that mean Pat Travers guitar work which goes back to his classic rock sound.

I’ve been a Pat Travers fan since 1988 and have seen several of his concerts with several different players and the current line up with Rodney, Kirk, and Sandy do not disappoint!  Each player is an integral part of Pats sound whether it be his classic rock hits, the blues, or his latest music, the Pat Travers Band are still makin’ magic!
