First Official Release For Deep Purple’s “Long Beach 1971”
On 2 March 2015 On earMUSIC

Welcome to Long Beach 1971, the latest album in earMUSIC’s Deep Purple reissue series that, over the last two years, has seen the release of rare live material from the band, including “Paris 1975”, “Copenhagen 1972”, “Stockholm 1970” and “Graz 1975”. Spanning over 70 minutes of music, “Long Beach 1971” has been re mastered in 2014 and is going to be released on 2 March 2015 on earMUSIC.

Recorded at Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, California, on July 30, 1971, it was broadcast on radio (KUSC 91.5 FM), a showcase for a support performance to Rod Stewart and The Faces. An official release for a concert that has long been considered a landmark for the band, the set featured tracks (“Speed King” and “Child In Time”) from their fourth studio album, June 1970’s “In Rock”. This was a transitional release for the Mk II version of the band - guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, frontman Ian Gillan, bassist Roger Glover, organ/keyboard player Jon Lord and drummer Ian Paice , being their first hard rock affair as well as their commercial breakthrough as the third leading über-rock band of the day along with Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.

Completing the set that day were a considerably extended version of “Mandrake Root” from their July 1968 debut album “Shades Of Deep Purple”, and “Strange Kind Of Woman”.

Opening with an 11-minute long “Speed King”, the show actually starts off like a climax, with a frenzy of organ and batter of guitar and drums, before segueing into a fast and furious riff and some classic caterwauls from Ian Gillan. Next up is “Strange Kind Of Woman”. The piledriving central motif is a classic combination of rhythm and riff, the band hitting a bluesy, even funky, groove. Following is an impressive version of the Deep Purple classic “Child in Time”: it is 20 minutes of heavy action from Blackmore. If you’re not too exhausted by that, there is time for one more, and it’s a good - not to mention long - one: “Mandrake Root”, a 27-minute extrapolation of the debut album track and concert standby.

Tracklist:
1. Speed King / 2. Strange Kind Of Woman / 3. Child In Time / 4. Mandrake Root

All in all, the frenzy, powerful show is leaving the audience staggered, and not a little dazed, as they head towards the exit, into the warm California night, wondering what the hell just happened.
Deep Purple live just happened!

BLACK STAR RIDERS SECOND STUDIO ALBUM
'THE KILLER INSTINCT ~ PRE ORDER NOW!

“Thin Lizzy is a known situation, but with Black Star Riders we’re
moving into uncharted territory and that’s pretty damn exciting. I’mhaving more fun playing right now than I have in years.”
– Scott Gorham (Black Star Riders, Thin Lizzy)

Fresh from the critically acclaimed debut album “All Hell Breaks
Loose” in 2013, Black Star Riders are set to release their sophomore studio album “The Killer Instinct” on Nuclear Blast Entertainment in February 2015.
The band toured 2013’s “All Hell Breaks Loose” for nearly two years playing across the globe. In October 2014 the band gathered in Nashville, TN and entered the studio with Grammy award winning producer Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, The FooFighters, Alice In Chains, Mastodon) to start recording the follow up. The result is “The Killer Instinct”.

The energy in the studio from a year of touring, and Black Star Riders gelling as a creative force has resulted in a truly powerful sophomore effort. From the Irish-tinged rock of “Soldierstown” to the balls-out twin guitar riffing of “Sex, Guns & Gasoline”. From the dirty groove of “You Little Liar” to the acoustic “Blindsided”, this is a band coming of age. “The Killer Instinct” will see Black Star Riders cement their place as one of the most exciting contemporary rock acts.

Damon Johnson (guitar) says, “Nick Raskulinecz came riding out of the sunset like a Viking warrior, with his record collection and arsenal of killer guitars and amplifiers and proved to be the world class producer we had heard so much about. Indeed, the rumors are all true. There’s no doubt that Ricky and I had written a sizable number of songs, but Nick patiently walked through the full song list with the entire band and made sure we focused on the material to best represent Black Star Riders in 2015.“

TRACKLISTING:

DISTRICT 97 WITH JOHN WETTON
'ONE MORE RED NIGHT ~ LIVE IN CHICAGO

15 Jan 2015

CRR (Dot EU) - New Classic Rock Releases
Spotlight: District 97 with John Wetton - One More Red Night (2015 Primary Purpose_Cherry Red Records)

So I asked myself. I said Self, who is District 97? Of course, the answer was just a Google Search away. Seems they are a fresh modern-day prog-rock band from the U.S.A. with a female lead singer who was a Top Ten finalist on 2007's American Idol. I only watched it one year, and that wasn't it. She lost, but got priceless exposure in the process. The lady's name is Leslie Hunt. Before her, District 97 was an instrumental band that is said to have played like the prog-rock band, Liquid Tension Experiment. Serious musicians, in which now I can connect to one of the coolest bass players walking the planet. A reason why I'm starting to learn how to play the bass myself is due to Mr. John Wetton. Also a songwriter, and a vocalist that has no problem rocking down the house. His singing abilities, as strong a voice of that of any twenty year old. I say this because when this particular live recording was done, the man was 65 years young. Note, I saw John perform live twice so far. Once with Grammy nominated Asia, and another time with his own band at ProgFest '97 (California). I know what he is capable of, and wasn't let down at either of the performances I seen.

I first heard of King Crimson reading the rock n' roll magazines of the 1970's in my youth on the Jersey Shore. Frankly, very few of my friends dug them. Not that they sucked, but said to be an acquired taste. Art Rock in full bloom. Being a Yes fan, my interest was who was behind the drum kit with that being former original Yes member / drummer extraordinaire, Bill Bruford. So I initially listened to King Crimson because of Bill. The band in all its incarnations since, with both Bill Bruford and John Wetton involved or not, for those who don't know, King Crimson is a vehicle for its main guitarist / songwriter, Robert Fripp. Oh...and heads up, for the mighty King Crimson has seen some activity of late. As also did John Wetton, who takes center square with his and District 97's performance of classic seventies King Crimson songs.

Whoever included at the time, for King Crimson centers around in every reincarnation, a man Bill Gates thinks is a top-notch guitar player; Mr. Robert Fripp. A wonderful musician and songwriter, for it's worth mentioning that Mr. Fripp's name is mentioned in the songwriting credits, with EVERY song performed on this very well performed and recorded live, new release.

Nine songs, and over forty minutes of classic King Crimson music performed on a HOT Chicago Night. John Wetton, not playing bass, for his backing band is District 97 and their bass player is more than capable (Patrick Mulcahy) which I imagine frees up thought and enables John to focus on his vocals, giving an incredible performance throughout. Music is performed flawlessly. Not really just a cover of older songs, for it showcases an important part of the classic King Crimson sound, with that being Mister Wetton. For those keeping score, this recording includes two songs from Larks' Tongues In Aspic, three from Starless And Bible Black, three from Red, and a King Crimson song from In The Court Of The Crimson King that John made his own when performing, '21st Century Schizoid Man'.

Rating: Using the five-star system where one star means it sucks, to five stars meaning it's worth spending your hard-earned cash on, yours truly rates District 97 With John Wetton - One More Red Night (Live In Chicago) - 5 stars!

Repeated plays since receiving it. A welcome addition to my King Crimson / King Crimson Related Collection (yes I have one). All fans of early King Crimson, District 97, and supporters of John Wetton, in my opinion NEED to have this recording. A lucky bunch of people who actually got to witness the show / tour live. With this recording you'll blow many minds, including your own. If coming out of the speakers, others could hear as well and then in the process you'll be turning others on who might not be aware of these gems.

To John Wetton, and the incredibly talented District 97 band; a wonderful recreation of a very cool batch of songs.

MICHAEL SCHENKER'S TEMPLE OF ROCK ~ SPIRIT ON A MISSION
BRAND NEW RELEASE!

Award-winning, legendary guitarist Michael Schenker releases a new studio album entitled “Spirit On A Mission” Released by in-akustik, the album of all-new material features Schenker’s Temple of Rock band - ex-Scorpions Herman Rarebell (drums) and Francis Buchholz (bass), ex-Rainbow’s Doogie White (vocals) and Wayne Findlay (guitar, keyboards).

The new album features twelve 12 classic rock guitar-driven songs that highlight Schenker’s distinctive and dynamic guitar playing, valiantly underpinned by the ferocious rhythm section of Rarebell and Buchholz, the same rhythm section that originally performed together on the Scorpions’ 1979 album Lovedrive.

Michael remembers how he came up with the name of the new album - “A while ago I was asked how I wanted to be remembered, and I said ‘as a spirit on a mission, spreading the joy of music from a place of pure self expression.’”

Scottish vocalist Doogie White, who co-wrote the album with Schenker, soars across every song, and stamps his personality with every note and phrase, while Wayne Findlay adds a new level to Schenker’s classic sound with his Dean 7-string guitar and keyboard arrangements.

Spirit On A Mission is a rapturous, explosive collection of brand new songs steeped in shades of dark and light. Musically and lyrically, the new album shows a re-energised guitarist at the top of his game, surrounded by some of the best musicians in rock.
The new album was recorded at Kidroom Studios, Muenster, Germany; the same studio where 2013’s Bridge The Gap album was recorded. The album was produced by Michael Voss and Michael Schenker, and engineered by Voss.

“After the Bridge The Gap Japan Tour in March 2014, I started to put new material together for what was to become the Spirit On A Mission album,” says Schenker. I went to the recording studio in June 2014 to put down the song arrangements and we finished recording in November.”

During the recording of the new album, the original recordings and guitars were stolen from the recording studio. Did this impact on the recording process of the new album?

“Yes we got robbed (some guitars and some music) and got very upset about it,” recalls Schenker. “Fortunately it was just performances and not compositions. We caught up and performed the music better than before. It forced us to work extra hard and longer but it made it stronger.”

For Schenker, the songwriting and recording process for Spirit On A Mission was very different from the 2012’s Bridge The Gap album.

Says Schenker - “I already knew ahead of time that I wanted to take Spirit On A Mission to the next level by adding more 7-string guitar on some songs to get more of the low heavy sound, and on other songs to keep it very fast and energetic with melodic vocals and a couple of mid tempo’s with more of my writing like in my UFO days.”

“Doogie did an amazing job with his melodies and singing,” adds Schenker. “Even though we had our instruments, music and equipment stolen from the recording studio, we had to re-record a lot of his vocals again, but when we did it the second time around, it got even better.”

“I asked Wayne to come up with a few cool guitar riffs on his 7 string. I added my parts to it and the outcome was very unique. Again, with the addition of Doogie’s vocals, we entered a whole new place that was an extreme pleasurable experience.”

The writing process and overall concept for Spirit On A Mission proved to be a fulfilling experience for Schenker and his band.

Says Schenker - “I always write in the same way but this time, especially driven by a precise concept.” The picture was album balance for me and combine many years of emotions in one. I wanted lots of double bass drum to keep the fast songs rolling like a train with lots of energy covered with interesting elements, a couple of my UFO days-type of mid tempos and the 7 string low sound to get a very wide range of sounds and emotions.”

Michael’s Temple of Rock shared ideas and collaborated in a bigger way on the new album.

“All songs were co-written by Doogie and myself, “recalls Schenker. “Wayne co-wrote five songs. I originally wanted to write the album as a group effort, but I had this concept that needed to be focused on differently. However, Herman and Francis did very well by adding there amazing Rock You Like A Hurricane rhythm section parts that gave it all it needed.

The new album also sees guitarist and keyboard player, Wayne Findlay, takes on a bigger role.

“Wayne has been with me (MSG) since 1999,” says Schenker. “In 2004, I met Dean Guitars and they built me a 7 string. I played it for a while but thought it was too much of a sidetrack from what I was doing.”

“I always liked that low sound and asked Wayne to look into developing it on the 7 string. A couple of years ago we started to use a bit of Wayne’s 7 string guitar on Bridge The Gap as a slow introduction. Wayne looks like a Neptune (Ocean God) and he loves the ocean. I saw this as an opportunity to have Dean build him a Trident Guitar in order to make his character complete. I wrote a little piece about Wayne called Neptune Rising on the Bridge The Gap album and now on Spirit On A Mission Wayne was ready to co-write five songs, and has now become an essential part of Temple Of Rock.”

“Coincidentally,” says Schenker, “former Scorpions members Herman Rarebell and Francis Buchholz and myself were out of the loop of rock’n’roll around the same time, but for different reasons. When we recorded 2013’s Bridge The Gap album, we had not played together since the Scorpions’ Lovedrive album (1979). Sprit On A Mission is the second Temple of Rock album to feature the former Scorpions rhythm section.

Former Rainbow singer Doogie White is described by Schenker as an ‘extremely creative individual with a fantastic range and a voice that never stops.’ “How many people do you know that can sing nine shows in a row, without a day off and still have a voice with a range like his?”, says Schenker. “He’s a real trooper.”

What are Schenker’s favourite songs from Spirit On A Mission, and why?

Says Michael – “I love Live and Let Live because it has everything. I love Vigilante Man because it’s heavy and melodic with a great tempo and sound. Something Of The Night turned out to be a fantastic outcome especially with that spooky Howler sound I developed awhile ago. Saviour Machine is an epic. Rock City, Bullet Proof, Restless Heart - I love the fast melodic stuff, and the other 7 string songs with a touch of ’70s rock.”

What are Schenker’s overall plans to promote the new album? Does he plan on touring the album by relentless touring and playing summer festivals?

“Promotion is definitely the next step,” says Schenker. "Wherever we are needed around the world, we will be there to promote “Spirit On A Mission". I want to make Temple Of Rock its own entity. Right now it is still using the Michael Schenker platform but eventually I want it to stand on its own feet as ‘Temple Of Rock’.

UFO  Release Their Latest Studio Album "A Conspiracy Of Stars" On February 23rd
Plus Full European Tour February Through May

Legendary UK band UFO return with their latest studio album A Conspiracy Of Stars on the 23rd of February.  for the first time in more than 20 years, one of the most British rock bands in music history has recorded a studio album in their native country. Their latest offering is entitled A Conspiracy Of Stars, was cut by rock legend UFO and breathes that typically British easy-going confidence for which this band has been known for over 45 years. A strong release consisting of eleven songs which combine everything that the group surrounding frontman Phil Mogg stands for: meaty riffs, distinctive hooks, diverse songwriting, intelligent lyrics and that generally laid-back attitude which we have associated with UFO from the start. The fact that A Conspiracy Of Stars was produced and mixed by Chris Tsangarides (Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore, among others) may be considered another successful element in a thoroughly consistent release. To cut a long story short: their 22nd studio recording to date sees UFO prove that past and present can be blended in a homogeneous whole.

A Conspiracy Of Starspresents UFO’s current line-up for the first time: along with the original members, Phil Mogg (vocals), Paul Raymond (keyboards, guitar) and Andy Parker (drums), lead guitarist Vinnie Moore has been a permanent member of the group since 2003, American bassist Rob De Luca joining the fold in 2012. De Luca is not only a brilliant instrumentalist but has also contributed two of the album tracks as a songwriter. The majority of the new material was composed by Vinnie Moore, the album also featuring a song by Paul Raymond and a collaboration between Raymond and De Luca. The lyrics were penned by frontman Phil Mogg.

The band also head out on a lengthy European tour commencing on 20th February in Germany and the tour reaches the UK on 16th of April and runs through until the 7th May

LEZ ZEPPELIN. All Girls. All Zeppelin
The 10th Anniversary
Direct from NEW YORK CITY – UK TOUR
With Support:  Screaming Eagles

"They played the Led Zeppelin music with an extraordinary sensuality and an energy and passion that highlighted their superb musicianship."
Jimmy Page

Led by New York guitarist, Steph Paynes, the all-girl quartet, LEZ ZEPPELIN, has since gained unanimous critical acclaim as one of the most exciting live acts around, becoming the first female rock act to pay homage to Led Zeppelin and to garner rave reviews across the board.

LEZ ZEPPELIN stays true to the musically audacious spirit of the original, delivering the legendary rock band's blistering arrangements and monstrous sound note-for-note at sold-out frenzied shows around the world.

In June, 2013, Jimmy Page attended their show in London and said of the group, "They played the Led Zeppelin music with an extraordinary sensuality and an energy and passion that highlighted their superb musicianship."

The thing that sets LEZ ZEPPELIN apart is the seamless and unique way they inject their gender-bending performance into the original material. They have been featured on major television including the BBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, MTV, VH-1, FOX and radio worldwide.
The group's first studio album was produced by legendary producer/engineer, Eddie Kramer (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix).

SPIN Magazine called them "the most powerful all-female band in rock history" while the New York Times raved that: "Strapping on the double-necked Gibson with attitude to burn, this all-girl quartet pays tribute to its swaggering namesake Led Zeppelin, ripping through the catalog with blazing accuracy."

Bob Stanley of The Times hailed, "they are the best band I've seen all year, no question,"
and CNN recently ran a front page feature that called the group so "electrifying" they are"driving club audiences to a frenzy."
For those sceptics who still dare to ask:

Can four women pull off the exuberant, powerful and musically intricate performances for which Led Zeppelin are known, a LEZ ZEPPELIN show is nothing short of a revelation.
THE SONGS REMAIN THE SAME

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY –
"Best Tribute Band in the World: Lez Zeppelin. The parallel universe genius of Lez Zeppelin, the sass-stacked all woman band toured the world, slayed it, and recorded an album with Led Zep's producer Eddie Kramer. We know whom John Bonham would have been rooting for.
The Guardian, London
"What Lez Zeppelin has done is taken their talent and wrapped it around one of the most classic of the classics, Led Zeppelin I. Their attention to sounds in the studio, energy, and playing has put them as one of the first to capture the overall vibe of the original. I have never heard it done better."
Joe Perry, Aerosmith
"After a single listen to their music, it's obvious Lez Zeppelin has a tremendous amount of love and respect for Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's Led Zeppelin. Lez Zeppelin are great musicians.  And then some."
Time Out
"The girls score points for taking the entire first Zep album and recreating it, musically. Guitarist Steph Paynes does an amazing job recreating Jimmy Page. We are talking the real deal..."
