Release Date: 11th June

Lizzy is one of rock music’s most recognisable names. The fiery Dublin band exploded onto the scene with a fresh sound, look and attitude. Lead by the incomparable Phil Lynott, the band reached many peaks and influenced generations of musicians with classic tracks such as “Jailbreak”, “The Boys Are Back In Town”, “Still In Love With You”, “Cold Sweat”, “Emerald” and “Don’t Believe A Word”.
Most rock historians would agree the pinnacle of their commercial success was in 1983, followed by the bands’ premature demise, as they played their last gig in September of 1984. Just two years later, the world was shocked when singer/bassist and founding member Phil Lynott passed away at the age of thirty six. Twenty five years have passed, the world has changed, but the amazing body of work that is Thin Lizzy still retains all of its vibrancy and influence.
Now following one of their most successful tours to date which is still going strong through 2012, Thin Lizzy have teamed up with USM to release the ultimate box set featuring all their hit albums:

Bath Festivals 1969-1970. Commemorative Boxed Sets

The Bath Festivals promoted by Freddy Bannister in 1969 and 1970 were two of the most important musical festivals of the late sixties and early seventies
The first Bath Blues Festival in 1969 featured amongst many others Fleetwood Mac, The Nice, Blodwyn Pig, Colosseum, John Mayall, Ten Years After and the mighty Led Zeppelin. The festival took place on the reasonably sized Bath Recreation Ground in the centre of Bath. Needless to say it was a huge success.
The Bath Blues and Progressive Festival of 1970 however was to be a whole different affair and much larger so the festival was moved to the Show Grounds  and attracted 150,000 people over two days rather than just one. Featuring the likes of Led Zeppelin (Altogether a bigger act some twelve months on) Jefferson Airplane, The Byrds, Fairport Convention, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd(Performing Atom Heart Mother), Canned Heat,, John Mayall and the Moody Blues to name just a few this was one of the biggest UK festivals ever held.
The reason we are telling you all this is because you can now buy a limited edition commemorative set featuring material from both festivals. What you get in the Boxed set is:
The 1969 and 1970 programmes, tickets and flyers, the 330 book dealing with all the backstage hassles, 15 photographs, the two 20ins x 30ins posters, a T-shirt from the 1970 Bath festival, plus 4 CDs.
All contained in a deluxe presentation box

The Boxed Sets can also be purchased in Monthly instalments to make the purchase a little easier. Check the website for details

Five-time Grammy award winning legend and Blues Hall of Fame Inductee Robert Cray is pleased to announce that his brand new studio album Nothin But Love will be released in the UK by Provogue Records on Monday August 27th.

The new album blends blues, rock, soul and jazz, with a lyric-sheet that examines the triumphs, fallouts and follies of love.

Nothin But Love is Cray’s sixteenth studio album and marks the latest milestone in a career that has produced 15 Grammy award nominations (5 wins), over 12 million record sales worldwide, thousands of sold out concerts across the globe, and even his own signature line of Fender guitars.

Dissidia - how they rock in Italy

First of our new band articles is a Gothic Prog band from Rome in beautiful Italy.
Italy has always been known for music (and of course food and sports cars). However internationally it has generally been classical music especially opera at the forefront with occasional snippets of Eurovision (god help us). There is a thriving pop music scene but rock music well it seems to be rather in the shadows apart from once in a while a band like PFM or Goblin gets some coverage, so when I was contacted by the singer of an Italian prog outfit I was more than a little interested to hear what they have to offer .
Dissidia lead singer Herma admits that in Rome it is really difficult to make much impact against the pop mainstream they suffer from a lack of suitable small and club type rock venues the local culture is mainly manufactured pop music, which as we know like dandruff is everywhere and filling the clubs. So building a regular dedicated audience was going to be a struggle, at the recorded live gigs I've seen they are getting the kind of response that indicates they have a bright future Gothically inspired. Dissidia started as a tribute band for Arkansas rockers Evanescence ( you may be familiar with their big hit “Bring me to Life” ) in 2009 and by 2011 had decided to move away from tribute and do their own thing going into a cross genre Prog which Herma teasingly describes as 'Dark, Gloomy and Gothic' not falling into the usual slots. I'd go further to my ears it is far from gloomy and I would add the stamp of Orchestral Prog on the package too. Either way you look it works very well and we will have to wait for the album release to see which way the band will move.
With Herma's beautiful vocals which resemble vintage Kate Bush the five piece band comprises Giordano who doubles on piano and bass, Enrico on Guitar, Francesco doubles on guitar and cello and percussion is taken care of by Valerio. The great thing with the instrumental options it gives Dissidia the chance to completely change the sound and mood between rock and orchestral using just the band members. I mentioned they have an album being recorded which is keeping them off the road and in the studio at present. I'm very impressed by the mixing of the tracks I've heard no doubt due to the band doing much of their own production and not resorting to multiple overdubs to boost the sound. The result of this is closer to a live recording altogether fresher than heavily enhanced studio output that some very well known bands use. Producer on the new album is the highly experienced Fabio Pignatelli who as well as writing for and playing Bass in 'Goblin' has screen credits on a number of film and TV scores.(sshh-he did Shaun of the Dead) A few songs are out on you tube showing the immense range of Dissidia from the rock of 'Shoot and Pray' to the ethereal classic prog 'The Ash Of You ' really worth a listen if you enjoy the crossover between Prog and Classic Rock as much as I do Great young band, great future, look out for the release which we will post up as soon as we hear along with further news.
