DEBORAH
BONHAM & BAND – ‘LIVE’
THE
‘SPIRIT’ UK TOUR TO CELEBRATE WORLDWIDE ALBUM RELEASE
To
coincide with the worldwide release of the “Spirit’ album on March 11th,
following her deal with US label Spectra Records and following a busy Summer of
2013 which saw Deborah opening for Bad Company in Illinois on their 40th
Anniversary Tour, she and her band set out on their UK ‘Spirit’ Tour,
commencing at Giants of Rock Festival over the weekend of 7th-10th 2014
alongside Blue Oyster Cult and Uriah Heep.
Mixed in
Nashville by Mike Poole (The Mavericks, Robert Plant’s Band of Joy),
the new album by this lady, another great Bonham family talent, features
12 tracks and is co-produced with Glenn Skinner (Deborah Harry,
Killing Joke).On Drums is Marco
Giovino (Robert Plant’s Band of Joy, John Cale, Norah Jones) and
other guests include pedal
steel supremo, B.J.Cole and a very special appearance from Robert Plant.
The first
single from the album, 'Take Me Down'
has received great reviews both in the UK and US, with the track spending eight
weeks at Number One on the Reverbnation Rock Chart and was
described by MFR Radio as “Pretty much the
perfect rock single”. And, although exclusively only available as a Limited Edition, Digi-Pack Pre Release
cd on tour, ‘Spirit’ shot into Radio
Caroline Album Chart!
Throughout, the album also features her stunning band who backed Paul Rodgers
for his only UK show of 2013 of an
entire set of Free songs featuring Deborah on the stunning duet ‘Oh I Wept’ to
the delight of the sold out audience.
Deborah
and her band have also toured and performed with Paul as well
as Robert Plant, Van Halen, Ann Peebles, Humble Pie ,Foreigner,
Nazareth, Jools Holland and Stax label
legend Steve Cropper
A regular festival favourite too, the band have
performed at Fairport's Cropredy (twice); Cambridge Rock Festival (4 times);
Donington, the Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival, Colne; The
Great British Rock & Blues Festival (twice) and Great British Folk
Festival (twice). In Europe, the band performed at The Czech Republic's first
Rock festival alongside Ozzy, Korn and Nazareth, returning the following year
to tour in the Czech Republic. They have also performed by invitation at
the Harley-Davidson Rallies in Austria, France and Portugal and 2013 saw
two very successful tours of France culminating with a magnificent performance
at Le Festival Chants D’Elles at La Traverse, Cleon
Deborah’s
last album, ‘Duchess’ (Rhino) - featuring 'Hold On', her self
penned duet with PAUL RODGERS and also featuring JASON BONHAM - was felt by
many at the time to stand as her finest work to that date. She rips through 13
original compositions backed by her forceful working band – including
bassist Ian Rowley, keyboardist Gerard Louis,
guitarist Peter Bullick. and legendary drummer Jerry Shirley
of Humble Pie. After Jerry’s retirement,
the ‘live’ band is now joined by drummer Rich Newman (Alvin
Lee, Steve Marriott, Rory Gallagher). Each song showcases Deborah’s
soulful singing and her effortless, sensitive approach to a list of styles,
from blues and soul to hard rock and English folk. Reviews of ‘Duchess’ have
been glowing, Blues Matters! describing Deborah as “a
blues mama par excellence” and Blues Revue in the USA listed
her as one of the New Women of Blues. Modern Guitars magazine
called ‘Duchess’ “A celebration of soul, strength and family…the album
stands as her finest work to date.”
Deborah's first album 'For
You And The Moon' was greatly applauded by the press and saw the
single 'Sanctuary' as BBC Radio 1 Simon Bates' 'Record of the
Week'. Reviewers were equally impressed with the long awaited follow up album
in 2004 'The Old Hyde' produced by highly acclaimed bassist Mo
Foster of Jeff Beck and Phil Collins fame
which also features JASON BONHAM on drums throughout and a special guest
appearance from MICK FLEETWOOD of Fleetwood Mac. Classic Rock lead
the compliments '...the album has balls...a classy set of bluesy hard
rock, Country Music Round-Up simply said'...quite
superb' and the influential All Music Guide judged
that it was '...one of the best blues-rock albums of the early 21st
century... not a bummer in sight'.
Spectra
Records have also now released all three of these albums, which sees the
digital debut of ‘For You And The Moon’.
The
Bonham family tree is firmly rooted in musical tradition. First was John
Bonham, the esteemed drummer for Led Zeppelin, who was followed
by his son Jason, a skilled skinsman in his own right, who
performed with Zeppelin at their much hailed O2 show, for which the Grammy
winning DVD 'Celebration Day' is now on release
The tradition continues forward...with Deborah
Bonham
